The Orlando Solar Bears are a professional ice hockey team that play in the East Division of the ECHL’s Eastern Conference. They are the development team for the Toronto Maple Leafs and play their home games at the Amway Center, also home to the Orlando Magic. The Solar Bears “came out of hibernation” beginning their first season in 2012 as a part of the ECHL. Since entering the league, the Solar Bears have had tremendous success on the ice bringing 700,000 fans to the Amway Center and making the playoffs in the 2013-14 season. In addition, the organization has collectively raised and donated more than $1,100,000 to the Central Florida community since 2012.
This February the Solar Bears Family announced the ground breaking of a 125,000 square foot hockey and training facility in Winter Garden, FL, that will be called the Orlando Hockey Center. The multi-purpose community center will include two sheets of ice and will be developed on 16 acres of land on East Crown Point Road off of the Plant Street exit from State Route 429, which is only a 15 minute drive from downtown Orlando. The team will continue to play in the Amway Center and will move its practices, locker room facilities, and offices to the new facility.
